Why Nova Is Returning to Chicago Build as Sustainability, Diversity and Real Estate Gurus Ambassadors
Chicago is a city that builds with purpose. For Nova, returning to Chicago Build for the second time is more than another event on the calendar. It is a chance to strengthen relationships, keep learning from one of the country’s most important development markets and contribute to the conversations shaping the future of construction, design and real estate.
This year, we are returning as Sustainability and Diversity ambassadors, and we are proud to add a new role as Real Estate Gurus ambassadors. Together, these three ambassadorships reflect how we work every day: with people first, open doors, practical guidance and a commitment to giving back to the communities where projects take shape.

Returning to Chicago Build with stronger relationships and deeper roots
Coming back to Chicago Build matters because it gives us a clear measure of growth.
Previously, we arrived with a focus on listening, learning and building trust. We met owners, developers, architects, city officials, engineers, contractors and community-minded professionals who care about how projects are planned, managed and delivered. Those conversations did not end when the expo closed. They helped us better understand the Chicago market and the priorities driving work across the region.
Chicago has its own rhythm. Large-scale commercial work, infrastructure needs, neighborhood development and adaptive reuse all carry different demands. Each project requires strong planning, clear communication and a team that can keep owners informed from the first budget conversation through closeout. As Nova continues to grow in the Chicago market, we are focused on bringing that steady approach to more partners and project teams.
Returning for a second year also gives us a chance to show consistency. We believe trust is built over time. It comes from showing up, following through and being accessible. Chicago Build gives us a place to reconnect with people we met last year, meet new collaborators and keep asking better questions.
This year, we hope to leave with stronger regional partnerships, a sharper view of current project needs and new opportunities to support owners before key decisions become costly. We are also looking forward to sharing what we have learned as a construction management and owner’s representative partner across markets.
Our ambassadorships reflect how we show up
Ambassadorships mean something when they connect to real practice. For us, Sustainability, Diversity and Real Estate Gurus are not separate lanes. They are connected parts of the same culture.
We believe good work starts with open communication. We also believe strong teams are built when more voices have a seat at the table. That includes how we plan for greener buildings, how we mentor people entering or growing in this field and how we help owners make informed decisions early in a project’s life.

Sustainability means guiding better choices from start to finish
Returning as a sustainability ambassador reflects our commitment to reducing carbon emissions, improving waste management and supporting greener building practices wherever we can influence the process.
In construction, sustainability cannot be treated as a late add-on. By the time a project reaches the field, many of the biggest decisions have already been made. That is why owner’s reps and construction managers can play such an important role during preconstruction.
Early guidance can shape:
Material selection and sourcing
Budget planning for sustainable options
Waste reduction plans
Coordination between design intent and field conditions
Closeout documentation tied to project goals
Our role is not to make sustainability more complicated. It is to make it more practical. Owners need to understand choices, costs, timing and trade-offs. Project teams need clear direction. Contractors need a plan that can be carried out on site.
When sustainability is managed from preconstruction through closeout, the team has a better chance of making decisions that reduce waste, support energy-conscious design and align with the owner’s goals. That is the work we care about, and it is one reason this ambassadorship matters to us.
Diversity means opening doors and building stronger teams
Returning as ambassadors for diversity in construction is just as important to us.
The built environment affects every community, so the teams that plan and build projects should reflect a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. That starts with opening doors for underrepresented professionals. It continues with mentorship, access and a willingness to help people grow at every stage of their careers.
At Nova, we believe mentorship should be available to anyone who wants to learn. That might mean helping someone understand project controls, guiding a young professional through field coordination, introducing a growing firm to the right opportunity or simply making ourselves available for honest conversations about career paths.
Diversity also extends to supplier networks and project teams. When we help build teams that reflect the communities we work in, we create more room for local knowledge, broader participation and long-term community benefit.
This is closely tied to our open-door culture. We want people to feel welcome asking questions, sharing ideas and building confidence. Construction can be demanding, but it should not be closed off. The more we support new voices, the stronger the industry becomes.
Real Estate Gurus brings owners, capital and project teams together earlier
This year, we are also honored to serve as Real Estate Gurus ambassadors.
For us, this new role fits naturally with our work as an owner’s representative and construction management partner. Real estate development depends on decisions made long before a project breaks ground. Site conditions, entitlement paths, design assumptions, construction costs, schedule risks and market expectations all shape whether a deal can succeed.
When owners, developers and investors connect with the construction and design side early, they can plan with fewer surprises. That does not mean every risk disappears. It means the team can identify concerns earlier, budget more clearly and make decisions with better information.
This is where Nova’s experience is most useful. We help translate between vision and execution. An owner may be focused on investment goals. A design team may be focused on program and experience. A contractor may be focused on cost, schedule and means of construction. Each view matters. Our job is to help those conversations happen early enough to improve the project.
Real Estate Gurus also connects with our community-first values. Better-planned projects can reduce confusion, avoid unnecessary waste and create a clearer path for the people responsible for delivering them.
Build expos bring real estate, construction and design together
Build expos in New York, Miami and Chicago matter because each city plays a major role in the future of development.
New York brings intense regulation, permitting challenges, dense sites and complex stakeholder needs. Miami brings rapid growth, resilience questions and a constant need to think carefully about climate, infrastructure and long-term value. Chicago brings scale, commercial depth, infrastructure work and a strong tradition of architecture and building.
Each city is different, but the need is the same: owners, developers, architects, engineers, builders and project partners need places to connect outside of isolated project silos.

A strong build expo creates room for practical conversations about:
New technology that helps teams plan and manage work
Sustainable building practices that can be applied in real projects
Policy and permitting updates that affect schedules and budgets
Project opportunities across public, private and mixed-use work
Regional lessons that can help teams avoid repeated mistakes
NY Build, Miami Build and Chicago Build also help firms like Nova build partnerships across regions. That matters because many owners and developers work in more than one market. A lesson learned in one city may help shape a smarter plan in another.
The strongest project teams do not work in isolation. Real estate decisions affect design. Design decisions affect construction. Construction realities affect budgets, schedules and long-term operations. When these groups speak earlier and more often, projects benefit.
For Nova, these expos are valuable because they bring the full project life cycle into one shared conversation. We can talk with owners about early planning, with design partners about coordination, with builders about execution and with peers about where the industry is heading.
That kind of connection supports better work. It also supports the relationships that carry beyond a single event.
Our people-first culture is the thread through all three roles
Sustainability, Diversity and Real Estate Gurus may sound like separate ambassador categories, but for Nova they all point to the same core belief: projects are built by people, for people.
Our people-first culture shapes how we manage work and how we participate in the industry. We want to be approachable. We want to share what we know. We want to mentor, listen and create space for others. We also want to help owners and project teams make decisions that serve both the project and the community around it.
That means giving back cannot be treated as something separate from our business. It needs to show up in how we hire, how we mentor, how we recommend project teams, how we support sustainable choices and how we guide owners through complex development decisions.
We are proud to return to Chicago Build because it gives us another opportunity to live those values in public, with peers and partners who care about building better.

We look forward to connecting in Chicago
As we return to Chicago Build for our second year, we are grateful for the relationships that have helped us grow and the new conversations ahead. We are coming back with clear purpose: to support more sustainable project decisions, open more doors in the industry and help owners, developers and investors connect construction and design thinking earlier in the process.
If you will be at Chicago Build, we would welcome the chance to connect. If you are planning an upcoming project and want to talk through early budgets, delivery strategy or owner’s representation, reach out to us through novaholdingsnyc.com. We look forward to building what comes next, together.
